Position Summary

As a Plant Health Care, you will play a critical role in assessing, monitoring, and supporting the health, safety, and long-term management of trees and landscapes across the city of Indianapolis. This position blends scientific evaluation, data collection, and client consultation to promote sustainable tree care and environmental stewardship.

A typical day may include:

  • Inspecting trees and shrubs to identify pest, disease, or structural concerns using advanced diagnostic and tree risk assessment techniques

  • Conducting Tree Risk Assessments (TRAQ-certified) and documenting findings in written reports

  • Collecting and mapping tree inventory data, including species, size, condition, and location, using GIS/GPS-enabled technology

  • Preparing diagnostic and risk assessment reports for review by the Consulting Arborist or Branch leadership

  • Communicating findings and recommendations with clients and internal team members

  • Supporting the development of management and preservation plans based on site data and analysis

  • Working independently or collaboratively to ensure accuracy, professionalism, and exceptional client service

About You

You are passionate about trees, ecosystems, and scientific analysis. You are detail-oriented, self-driven, and motivated by work that makes an environmental impact. You bring:

  • An ISA Certified Arborist credential (required)

  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) (required)

  • A degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Plant Pathology, or Environmental Science, or equivalent experience

  • Strong understanding of tree identification, entomology, and plant pathology

  • Proficiency in GIS, GPS, and digital mapping tools for data collection and analysis

  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills for client communication

  • The ability to work independently with professionalism and integrity

  • Authorization to lawfully work in the U.S.

  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to operate service-line vehicles

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing these duties, employees may be required to:

  • Stand, walk, and work outdoors for full days in varying weather conditions

  • Balance, bend, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Sit and use a computer or tablet for data entry and reporting

  • Occasionally work overtime or weekends as projects require

  • Travel within the branch, district, or region based on project needs
